The fertile ground of our Jam Band was the many years of late night sessions, organized by Kathy Wilson, the mother of all jams, drawing top musicians of the Mexican Caribbean, Veracruz and Mexico City. On a full moon night in November of 2022 the three founder members of Ajolotls ended up jamming all night long. The beginning of a fruitful and varied musical journey.
The band was named after a magical creature, the
Peter Pan of the Salamanders.
Similarly written Axolotls, originate from Mexico, never grow old and can renew their limbs & organs. This intriguing animal basically said no to evolution by preferring to remain in water.
What better name for a unique band that renews itself everytime they play.
Surrealist Music Project because we never plan songs and barely repeat them. Music that simply happens instinctually in the moment out of the pure joy of jamming.
Browsing our channel YouTube.com/@ajolotls (link below) you will find over 400 videos touching on a variety of different soundscapes, the reason we call our live sets: 'Around the world in 80 minutes'.
Sergio Flores plays multiple instruments, has spent his whole life immersed in music, often playing keyboards for well-known Mexican musicians. He is the creative engine behind Ajolotls.
Marcello Etchart, member from the get go, starting out on percussions and voice, he now experiments with special effects and sound inventions.
Marco Riha, voice, keeps on experimenting with different vocalisations, at times singing in three languages, improvising texts in the moment.
Foka Racca has joined us with his unique, out of this world guitar sound.
Josè Luis Avila Gallegos, our drummer noticably comes from a Jazz background.
Besides we are being visited by an ongoing stream of various special guests, which helps this musical experiment to constantly transform. We feel lucky to welcome Kathy Wilson on voice, present the rare Kundalini Brenda Barba Beltrán on percussions & voice, the talented Saxophonist Anushka Moracho, Mauricio Blanco Nevarez on bass & Martin Kappelmeier on bass or guitar. Our latest visitor was Gabriela Goya who impressed us with her multifaceted voice variations.
